One of Kauai's larger markets, the Kapaa Farmer's Market sets up on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm in the parking lot at New Town Ball Park on Kahau Road in Kapaa on the eastern shore, north of Wailua. You'll find fresh coconut, papaya, and local produce, as well as island fruits like rambutan, starfruit, coconut, and longan that you may not find as often on the mainland. Farmers, as well as folks who grow in their own gardens, set up booths. The market is well attended by both locals and tourists, and even shirtless surfers taking breaks from the waves and hungry for snacks. Definitely a community gathering, it's a leisurely way to mingle with Kauai's residents and support a grassroots market.
